BME lab receives new international funding to continue our research 18 sierpnia 2021 – Posted in: News – Tags: 2021, BME Lab, Brain, Brain Stimulation, kucewicz, Michal Kucewicz, Poland
We are delighted to share the results of the last competition for international research proposals under the Opus LAP (lead Agency Procedure) of the National Science Centre (Narodowe Centrum Nauki). Our proposal entitled: ‚Recording and modulation of high frequency neurophysiological activities underlying encoding and recalling memories’ was ranked 4th and received financial support for three years of collaborative research together with the Medical University of Wroclaw and St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno (Czech Republic). This is our first internationally funded project with Dr. Kucewicz and Dr. Jan Cimbalnik as the leading Principal Investigators in Poland and Czech Republic.
The main goal of this project is to determine the fundamental brain activity that underlies individual memories in our mind. We test a hypothesis that these are generated by assemblies of specific neurons synchronized in oscillations of high frequency (>60 Hz) when memories are formed and recalled. We will attempt to stimulate specific memories to selectively enhance their recall and thus develop better therapies for brain stimulation in diseases of memory and cognition.
